Maitland River Capelet

Dreams of the Maitland River Capelet

I am laying on my back floating down the river. It is a perfect night. Warm, very little breeze. The sky is
black, and the stars look crisp in the sky. The golden rod is blowing gently with the tiny breeze.

I can see bats flying overhead and I hear the frogs as I float by the lily pads. The moon is full and bright.

Very soon I come to the stone bridge that takes me away from the dream place of the Maitland River. The place where the river is healthy and clean. Everyone knows it, and we have all contributed. This is the place where we can lay, floating
on our backs and know that everything is okay. This
Maitland River exists. Can we find it together?

When is the next time that you will be down at the
river at night, drinking in the beauty and stillness, telling the river who you are, and asking for the gift of a dream?

Step on the Stone Bridge and see where the Dreams of  the Maitland River take you.

The Dreams of the Maitland River Capelet is featured in the North Perth Arts and Culture Council Artist of the Month program for October.

An Introduction to Shamanic Knitting Retreat

Merge with your Inner Yarner

An Introduction to Shamanic Knitting

November 3-4, 2012

at Six Directions @ Pioneer Farm, Eagle, Ontario

This retreat will assist you with getting comfortable with the beginning aspects of knitting, and how to connect knitting in with your spiritual practice.  We will discuss the use of different types of yarn, and what the symbols on the yarn mean, as well as the many different tools and knitting needles that can be used for knitting and what their purposes are.

You will be invited to connect with the spirit of the yarn to understand what the story of your unique knitted piece will be.  We will sing our love and joy into the knitting that we create, just as many have done in the past and still continue to do so today.  As many have discovered, knitting is a very beautiful form of prayer work.

For this retreat, you do not need to know how to knit, though some familiarity with knitting would be helpful, it is not essential.  The basics will be reviewed throughout the weekend.

We will be using the technique of shamanic journeying to connect with the yarn spirits.  If you are not familiar with shamanic journeying, please connect with me and we can discuss this beforehand.  Even without the training in shamanic journeying, you will be most welcomed to attend and experience shamanic knitting!

Space is limited, so sign up early!

Purple Memories Scarf

This scarf was created by the ancestors,
It was created by the dinosaurs,
They are thankful to be celebrating with us.
We toast with glasses of red wine.
We are held softly in their embrace,
They whisper to us
"You must find another way to connect with us.
We are here.  We love you.
Leave our remains at peace,
Hear us, Feel us, Know us in a
new and ancient way.
We are here, and we love you."

The story of this scarf is a gentle and loving reminder of our connections with those who have passed before us.  There is a feeling here that perhaps our dependency on oil is because of our deep desire to connect with our ancestors.  The soft embrace of this scarf reminds us that our ancestors are thankful for our connections to them, and asks us to be mindful of our next steps.

This scarf will be gifted to someone on January 1st, 2012.  Click 'like' on the Healing Knits Canada page for a chance to be in the draw!

Thank you!
May you feel this connection deep within your bones, and know that you are in the gentle embrace of the ancestors.

The Path of Wood and Roses Scarf

When you were born and for a long time after that,
It is easy to see the path that you are on because
your grandparents and your parents have woven your path for you.
Your Grandmothers and your Mother walk a pink and brown path
of Roses and Wood.
This is the path that they have begun to lay for you.
There comes a time when you move forward on the path
that has been woven for you and you begin to choose a new path.
When you begin to choose a new path there will be many things
 that will distract you.
Things may begin to look different, they may even be a little confusing.
You may not be able to see how this or that connects in with
your life.
Sometimes you will see sparkly things along the way that are
off of your path, and these sparkly things may call you to
leave your path.
Always know that even if the path looks different, even if you have made new choices,
even if you become distracted,
when you look down to see the colour beneath your feet,
the colours of you Grandmothers and your Mother,
the colour of Roses and Wood, you will know
that it is still your path.
The path that was woven for you,
and also
The path that was chosen by you.

Glimpses of what's coming....

In May, I was priviledged to spend some time in Niagara Falls. Feeling the power of the Falls even while resting was wonderfully refreshing!  It was amazing to spend some time drumming and connecting with Helping Spirits while being surrounded by knitting.

During my short stay, I was able to hook up with a friend, Krissy who took some shots of some of my knitting.  There are new pieces coming, and this is a quick glimpse of some of the items that are on my needles right now.

The orange piece in the center already has a few fans, and it is not
even finished yet.  The story of this piece is being developed as well.  Look for it available for purchase this fall!

Knitted socks are on the needles in the pic to the right.  I love homemade knitted socks!  Nothing tells me that my feet are cosy better than a pair of handknitted socks. The yarn that is being used for these socks, reminds me of lifesavers candy, so I call socks that I make with this yarn, my Lifesaver Socks!
